Race for Survival in Albania

Monday 20 October 2014

On the Global Day of Action for child survival, Save the Children called on authorities to accelerate efforts and give an end to child deaths from preventable causes and to guarantee access to quality health services for all children no matter where they live, where they come from, or who they are.

About 100 children runners from primary schools of Burrel town (North East Albania) had the opportunity to discuss child health and child survival issues with authorities of Ministry of Health, Ministry of Education and Regional and local government.

Children highlighted their right to have access to quality health services and the need for improvements and real changes on child health and child survival in Albania. Some of the specific issues raised by children were also: the lack of qualified health workers, lack of dental care services for children in schools, corruption in health as well as lack of didactic materials and sport playground in schools.

Part of this day event, it was also the Health Center Inauguration ceremony in Gurre Commune (rural area). The physical reconstruction of the building, medical equipments and materials provided for this center were supported by Save the Children, in the framework of the project: Access to quality health services and information for mothers, newborns and children in the Rripe village.
